Reflections of Love in 2020

As I reflect on 2020, I think of how Love has shown up in my life in unexpected situations, places, experiences and people. Love can be sneaky, like a small heart popping up to say, “hello on a shoe”. You might not see it unless you are looking for it. This year I have learned that magic is in the details.⁠

⁠I consider how Love can hide from plain view. How it surrounds and supports us, yet sometimes we don’t see it, why is that? Is it because we have been trained to believe that Love comes in certain forms? In my experience Love often comes in ways I do not expect, if I am not observant, I might miss opportunities to Love and be Loved.

They say, “we find what we are looking for”. Let’s admit it we are all looking for Love and as the song goes, often in the wrong places. But we all want Love; romantic, family, friendship, colleague, community and humanity Love.⁠

This year I saw communities unite together in solidarity, inclusion, support and generosity to carry one another through a pandemic, as well as to heal political and racial divide. While many wondered what the world had come to, I saw Love rising up within humanity like a war cry saying, “enough, we can do better, let’s stand up for change”. This year the cry of Love rose up within me in such a way that I realized, this is what I am here for.

When I use the word Love, I type it with a capital L, because in my experience Love is an unconditional, unconventional fierce sacred force. It is more than sentimental well wishing. Love never quits. Love cuts through the mess and muck to see the diamond within and Love knows how to awaken and create change. Love hopes, believes and perseveres.⁠

⁠This Love is within us waiting to be expressed. Our conditioned societal norms, beliefs and constructs have hampered, constrained and hidden it within. Our circumstances have caused us to be cautious and fearful, so we wait to be loved rather than to be Love. Of this I am sure, the Love we are looking for in the world is looking for us. Will we awaken? Will we rise? Will we be the change we wish to see? Will we love the way we want to be loved? We will be Love?⁠

⁠It is this Love that overcomes, heals, unifies, includes, accepts ALL as they are and works together to make sure that no one is left behind. We can create a better world, if we know this Love and realize it is who we are
