Drink from the Divine Fountain

divine mother

There is no denying that there has been a global shift of spirit, spirituality and consciousness in the last few years. As a global community we have become aware of the Divine Feminine. She is not new nor has she been missing or sitting idly by while we go about life. No, she has been patiently waiting, while we largely ignored her. Much like a teenager too busy experiencing life and friends to spend time with their mother.

In the first wave of the Divine Feminine, there was much talk of empowerment and finding our voices, getting to know the strength of the Feminine. We began to value and practice self-care and expression. We awakened to change and began to dismantle our patriarchal world view to find something more balanced. In the East this balance of male and female energy is seen in the symbol of yin & yang. Yin represents female energy and yang male; forever moving in a circle, one giving way to the other, separate but one. One is not better than the other or the leader; that belief is found in the human concepts of patriarchy. They each are what they are Divine Feminine and Masculine energy embodying information of aspects of our Divine selves. We all have and need both.

In humanity’s search for wholeness we have fixated on the Divine Masculine and it has become distorted through Patriarchy. In this system, construct of beliefs, we have elevated male energy as the “leader”, the ones with voices, power and influence. This message is seen in the Bible where women are forbidden to speak in meetings. The underlying message is, women have no authority; they are weak. In that context women were often considered possessions; first of their father then of their husbands. Look how far we have come, all of us, together are deconstructing these beliefs of inequity.

In the rise of the Divine Feminine we have heard messages of “take your power back” and “woman strong”, we have needed this message from Source to begin to shift the scales of justice and raise our consciousness to one that resonates more fully with unconditional love. These were early waves of empowerment for all. It washed over women with a greater understanding that we are equal and we have a right to be here, be heard and to manifest our dreams too. As a woman I began seeing how I agonize over things that man do without thinking. I have transformed from a woman who looked to a man for security to someone who is learning to be secure in myself. That is the power of the Divine Feminine.

As I write this it is April 27, 2020, I am in my home “sheltering in place”, Covid-19 has swept into the global story as a vehicle of swift change. Chaos, the goddess Kali, has reigned for the last few months; destructive energy that exposes, clears, tears down what constricts and blinds us so we can create and begin anew. New life is forming within and will eventually be birthed like a Phoenix from the ashes. We are in, like I shared in my teaching on Transformation in LA, in the murky, unknown of the cocoon. It is a time of darkness and uncertainty mixed together with hope and the inspired spark of new life. The question is, “What will we become?”

When I observe the unfolding of recent events, what I see being exposed is fear. These fears are not new. They have been in the shadows of our collective subconscious for thousands of years. These are the fears we have operated from. It is these fears that have caused us to create the divisions that still exist today. These old primal fears have caused us to collectively look outside ourselves for our security. The fear that we have something fundamentally wrong with us; that we cannot trust ourselves to handle what comes. At its very root, this fear is actually the longing to be significant, loved and accepted for who we are.

Patriarchy tells us to look to the Father. Heal your daddy issues, connect with God as Father and you will be whole. I am not here to negate that. It has its place and value, but it is only part of the story. When we hook into one understanding, God as Father, we negate and neglect the other, Divine Mother.

“As above, so below, as within, so without.”

from the Emerald Tablet Apollonius of Tyana

Anything that exists in our physical reality is a manifestation of an energetic truth. As humans we have both mother and father. We embody both male and female energies. Spiritually speaking, we need to relate and connect to both male and female Divine.

For the last year or so, I have become aware of my “root wound”, my core wound, that is associated with my relinquishment at birth. I wrote about the discovery of this trauma in a previous blog post, “I Want My Mother” and on a podcast Lens of Love with Joe Atalig (episode 11 Primal Wound: Healed). Since its discovery I have been “doing the work” as self-helpers like to say.

The Root Chakra is associated with the first belief we encounter after birth, “do I belong here, on this earth and in this family system?”. This chakra governs beliefs of “I am safe and secure, I belong, I have a right to be here, I am financially secure”. Our sense of safety and am I loved as I am are wrapped up in our earliest experiences.

Root issues stem from our first experiences and therefore are our core issues that need not only Divine Father, but Divine Mother healing. Our earliest experiences are more connected to mom than dad. Father becomes more significant later in our stories, but our first survival need is mom. We come into existence through the portal of her flesh, her pain and love. She is our first home. We experience security in her arms and sustenance through being fed on her breasts. Intimacy, warmth, connection, love, affection, safety, nourishment, our most primal needs are first met through Mother. It is the Mother that secures, nourishes and grounds us. She welcomes us into being, celebrates our birth and says, “my child, I am so glad you have finally arrived. Now shine forth in your fullness.” Gaia (Mother Earth), Demeter, Quan Yin, and Mary are a few goddesses that Divine Mother energy/information present through. Think of the grounding we feel from Gaia when we are out in nature; hiking, at the ocean or working in the garden. She is there imparting her calm.

In the last year as I have traversed the shadows of my root wound, I have been aware of the archetypal journey I was on. Wounded healer, the heroes journey and learned that it is indeed going through the wound that heals. In the dark hidden corners of my subconscious light began to shine. Transformation wiped away tears, removed fears, masks and exposed false perceptions. It was during this time that I was finally able to connect with the Divine Feminine. It had always been difficult for me. I had easily connected with Jesus and Buddha. I had earnestly tried to connect to the Divine Feminine, but she felt distant and far away. More like and “it” then someone I felt connected to. Perhaps because of my relinquishment….

In hindsight, I can see the Divine Feminine’s involvement. I had small ah-ha moments when I realized Athena, aka Wisdom, had been by my side since early childhood, in November I realized that the goddess Kali had come into my life over the last 5 years and Quan Yin quietly came last spring and has been gently giving guidance and new insight ever since. Quan Yin felt like mother energy to me and came at the same time that my primal wound was being exposed. As my first trauma began to be explored Divine Feminine, especially Mother was there, but still hidden, like she knew I wasn’t ready to be close. I did not make the connection until recently.

When I do energy work, I become a conduit of universal energy. This Divine information flows through me and there are moments that I can read the information, only what is needed to be conveyed. During a recent session, I experienced Divine Mother energy. Pictures and sensations, emotions, information swirling, I experienced the love of the Divine Mother; strong, deep, fierce, proud, protective, complete. She was saying, “you are significant. It is so deeply important that you are here, so much so, that someone agreed to be here and go through childbirth to be a portal of flesh for you to come through into this physical reality. You are part of the unfolding of the universe and I unconditionally love you. I want you to know and feel your significance”.

Because of our culture’s patriarchal understanding of the divine we have focused mostly on the Divine Masculine and missed the balance and flow that comes from embracing and experiencing both. In my 20’s and 30’s, I experienced spiritual insight and healing through the Divine Masculine and I am thankful for it. Now, I am experiencing the Divine Mother and for me it has been the healing I lacked, the missing piece to my wholeness, the experience and understanding I desperately needed.

It is time, to awaken, to the true flow of the Divine. Everything is interconnected, Male and Female, flowing, two separate parts of one divine universal whole. This is the way of the universe, separation is an illusion. It is a paradox and mystery, but so simply obvious. We need the integration and balance of the two.

I believe the fear we are now collectively experiencing shows our lack of connecting to Divine Feminine, especially Divine Mother. This is not only for women! We all must heal our root. There is much focus on the higher chakras; being heart centered, speaking your truth, following your intuition and being spiritual, but if we do not heal our Root, our perceptions will be distorted and what we manifest will mirror back to us our inner turmoil.

Nothing has been more healing for me, than drinking from the Divine Fountain of Mother. Symbolically nursing from the mother’s breast, heart chakra center of Divine love. Energetically connecting to and receiving the calm nurturing comfort and safety of the Divine Mother. I hope as you read this you were reminded of moments where you experienced her love for you. Her message would be, you are welcome here, you are celebrated, you are divine and lovely, you are significant, you are safe and secure, you are abundant, and I love you completely just as you are.

As I finished this post, I was uncertain of a title and turned to my Kuan Yin Oracle Deck and requested insight for title and focus of the post. Below, is the card I pulled. As you can see, it was the inspiration for the title. It’s message is;

The Divine Feminine is encouraging of the awakening and empowerment of all living beings. When a sincere seeker is trying to find the way through, there is much help sent. It makes sense to be open to receive it, indeed to step forward and drink from the emerald fountain which is the unconditionally loving heart chakra of Quan Yin. Allow yourself to be nourished by the power and love of the Divine Mother flowing in you now.
